A Norwegian fisherman is making waves on Instagram after sharing photos of a mysterious sea creature he named “Frankenstein fish”. A photo of a peculiar fish is currently causing a stir on Instagram as amateur oceanographers try to guess the name of this mysterious fish.
The monster fish is identified by oceanographers as a ghost shark, living at a depth of 200-2,550m in the deep sea.
The creature was discovered by Roman Fedortsov, a commercial trawler stationed near the Russian port city of Murmansk, who photographed dozens of worms at night while out fishing.
One of Fedortsov’s strangest finds, posted a week ago to his more than 649,000 Instagram followers, was a translucent white fish with sunken blue eyes, a swept-wing-like tail and fins resembling like bat wings. Most distinctive perhaps are the strange, stitch-like marks that make the fish look like it was sewn together haphazardly, like Frankenstein or “Jigsaw” in the comic “The Punisher.”
However, some marine-savvy social media users correctly guessed that the creature was a ghost shark – also known as a chimaera, ratfish, ghostfish or rabbitfish – related to fish. sharks and rays, according to Smithsonian magazine.
According to the UK’s Shark Trust, this fish has only cartilage, not bones, and is rarely seen as it is found at depths from 200 m to 2,550 m. In fact, although it has been known to science for quite some time, it was captured on camera for the first time in 2016.
