According to scientists, the name Bigfoot became popular in America since 1958 when an article mentioned giant footprints, believed to be that of a monster.

Some people believe that Bigfoot is just a legend and scientists have not yet proven the existence of this creature, however, some people claim they have seen Bigfoot.

Bigfoot in China is called Yeti, while in Nepal this creature is called Abominable Snowman. In Australia it is called Yowie.

Sasquatch is said to be about 2-3m tall, weigh more than 230kg and is covered in dark brown or black fur.

According to the Bigfoot Field Research Organization (BFRO), Bigfoot emits a strong foul odor, usually to alert to the presence of a male or female.

Many witnesses have described Bigfoot as having big eyes and a low forehead. Besides, the giant footprints of Bigfoot discovered show that it is unlike any other creature, up to 60cm long and 20cm wide.

According to BFRO, there are hundreds of people who report seeing this creature in North America every year. Among them, Washington is the state where Bigfoot seems to be sighted most often, with 700 reported times.

In 1958, the Humboldt Times, a local newspaper in Northern California, published a story about the discovery of mysterious, giant footprints near Bluff Creek, California, and called the creature that created them Bigfoot. Since then, interest in Bigfoot has grown.

However, in 2002, a newspaper wrote that the Bigfoot footprints near Bluff Creek were just a joke. Over time, Bigfoot gradually became familiar across the continent.

The most famous video recording of Bigfoot was taken in 1967 by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin. Video shot in Bluff Creek shows a tall, hairy primate-like creature walking on two legs, striding across a clearing. Although this video is considered by many to be a hoax, it is still the most reputable evidence showing the existence of Bigfoot.

In August 1980, the most shocking event occurred when people in the town of Conemaugh, Johnstown (USA) first discovered giant footprints in the mud. In particular, the foot has up to 6 toes and the right foot print is 2.4 meters away from the left foot print.

In the book Big Footprints (Johnson Books, 1992), researcher Grover Krantz said that samples of Bigfoot’s fur, feces, skin scratches and blood found by humans often receive no scientific research.

In 2013, a man in Utah ( USA ) discovered what he thought was a fossilized Bigfoot skull. However, a paleontologist has confirmed that the skull is simply weathered rock.

In 2014, a group of researchers led by the late geneticist Bryan Sykes from Oxford University (UK) conducted genetic analysis of 36 hair samples belonging to Bigfoot or Yeti believed to live in the Himalayas. Nearly all hair samples came from common animals such as cows, raccoons, deer and humans.

So far, the evidence about Bigfoot is still very weak and largely faked, but the community of fans of this creature is not discouraged. In fact, there has been fossil evidence showing the existence of a prehistoric ape that could stand upright.

Specifically, researchers based on fossils found Gigantopithecus blacki, about 3 meters tall and weighing up to 270kg. However, this species lives in Southeast Asia, not North America, and has been extinct for thousands of years.
