Sakhalin – Russia’s largest island is a magical land with many special plants. This place has up to 1,000 different types of plants, including many rare and endangered plants.
However, what surprises many people every time they come to Sakhalin island are the giant plants. Even when standing next to them, people will become tiny people like in fairy tales.
It’s the same buckwheat tree. In other places, the tree is small, pretty, about as tall as a person’s body, but on this island, the buckwheat tree can be up to 5m high.

A local resident said: “If it suddenly rains on the island, you just need to pick a leaf of the burdock tree to cover it so you won’t get wet.” The leaf of the burdock tree has an average diameter of up to 3 meters long. If you use this leaf as an umbrella, it is like an umbrella.
Even a type of weed on Sakhalin Island has a height of up to 2.5 m or the buckwheat tree here will be 5 times higher in size than normal.
Researchers from the Institute of Geology and the Russian Academy of Sciences conducted research on unusually large herbaceous plants in 12 different areas of Sakhalin Island.
Scientists believe that this land has characteristics due to the tectonic process of the earth’s crust, so trees can grow so abnormally.
No matter how huge the trees are, local people still use them to make dishes as usual.
