A mother sheep gives birth to a lamb with a human face. Lambs die at birth. It happened in a village not far from the city of Izmir, Türkiye.
Human-faced sheep
Erhan Elibol, a veterinarian, performed an operation on a mother sheep to remove her baby. The lamb terrified the whole village: it had a high nose, strangely human-like.
The 29-year-old veterinarian recounted: “I have seen a number of cases of deformed cattle. For example, a calf has only one eye, a goat has two heads. But this time I was stunned and couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the lamb. Her mother couldn’t give birth on her own, so I had to have a surgery for her.” The lamb’s head is exactly like a human head. Eyes, nose, mouth are no different from humans. Only the ears are sheep ears.
Veterinarian Elibol said: the mutation phenomenon is very rare and usually occurs when the diet is incorrect, for example the mother sheep’s food is too rich in vitamin A. In Zimbabwe, there was a case of a female goat gave birth to a baby with a human-like face in September 2009. This mutant baby goat with a human head lived for a few hours until the villagers thought the devil had appeared so they beat him to death.
The mutant lamb has no hair. Local people said that even dogs were very afraid of the human-headed sheep and did not dare to come close. The villagers brought the dead deformed animal and burned it under a fire, so biologists had not yet arrived to study this unique mutant animal.
