With a length of 13 meters, the Purussaurus crocodile is as long as a train car and weighs dozens of tons. Purussaurus is a genus of Caiman crocodiles, they were present on earth 8 million years ago. They accompanied the “lords of the earth” dinosaurs in South America during the Miocene epoch.

Due to changes in climate and environment, the “monster” Purussaurus became extinct in the presence of humans. Archaeologists have found many of their fossil heads in Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Amazonia and northern Venezuela. Thanks to finding the skull of the “monster” Purussaurus, we know that they once existed on this earth.

The skull length of the “monster” Purussaurus is up to 1.5m. From there, scientists estimate that the total body length of an adult Purussaurus crocodile will be up to 11m, even 13m. With the above size, scientists have concluded that the Purussaurus monster is the most giant species in the crocodile family that has ever existed.

The Purussaurus monster fossil was most recently found in 2005 in Peru, discovered by a French expedition. Because the “monster” Purussaurus has existed for so many years from our lives, knowledge about them in nature is still limited.

The diet of most crocodiles varies with age. The young will eat insects and spiders. As they grew, their bite force also changed with the size of their prey, meaning adults were capable of hunting ancient mammals and turtles.

With its tremendous bite force, Caiman Purussaurus is not limited by size when choosing a meal. This is proven, along with the tibia of a sloth, the shell fossil of an ancient large turtle was also discovered.

According to initial assessments, they are animals that live half in water and half on land. They live in tropical and coastal environments.
